One late, dark evening in 2011 I was locked out of my Dad's house after a gig in Devon and had some time to work on an idea I had in my head. My mind was preoccupied with the impending skydive that I and 10 others were embarking on that August and I had to find a way to release these feelings into a song.

The first draft was ready before morning and as I continued to work on the arrangement over the coming weeks it evolved more and more towards a finished product I could feel pride in. It was a process with so much energy devoted to it and I couldn’t wait to share it with the world.

The message is a simple one; face your fears. My own dread for great heights is a lifelong and deeply ingrained fear that most of us have but it goes deeper than that. The strength to speak up, to be yourself. Standing tall when it’s all too easy to hide and risking your heart by declaring your love just to name a few more reasons a lot of us stay too shy.

Everything I value that I have ever achieved in my life has been on the other side of my own insecurity and uncertainty. We may never really shake off our anxieties completely but realising we have the power to face them and overcome them has been so important in shaping the experiences that have helped us to grow.

It is by far my favourite song to play live and acts as a constant reminder to keep pushing on every step of the way since I wrote it. I hope you will find some strength in the song too.
